I really like movies like this. Men, Women & Children isn’t fun and happy but it’s real. It shows the realities of how technology has changed communication between family members, friends, and in general, people. Sure some of it is unsettling to watch, to know that technology can impact us so heavily, but it’s important to watch. To understand that technology and the access we have to things like porn or dating websites, or even the idea that we can upload pictures to the internet so easily can effect us personally, socially, and in business.

Visually Jason Reitman makes this interesting for us to watch as he does things like superimpose text messages and website text next to his characters as they interact with their technology. He also got some amazing young talent in Ansel Elgort and Kaitlyn Dever who both give the most impressive performances of the cast, playing off of each other for what surmounts to the truest relationship of the movie.

Men, Women & Children is an important film for American society to watch and learn from. If we try and control technology too much we will lose some of the amazing benefits we get from it, but if we rely on it too much things can get quickly out of our control.

God Bless America
