The Crying Game (1992)

112 min.

Jesus H. Christ! This movie is both strange and humane, and it all becomes a lot to process in the 112 minute running time. It deals with terrorism, Stockholm syndrome, nationalism, and love and does so through the wildest yet most subtle lens imaginable. But I can’t say too much, otherwise I’ll spoil one of the best twists I’ve seen in a long long time.

What I can say is that Forest Whitaker nails his part as Jody and that the opening scene will most likely have you hooked for the remainder of the film.

The Crying Game delivers in the most unconventional way possible and is definitely a decade or two ahead of its time. You should go into this one knowing very little so that what you get in return will be all the more of a shock.
